Naomi Campbell: ‘I gave up drinking alcohol. Not drinking makes me a lot happier’

NC

As Naomi Campbell ‏gears up for the premiere of her new show “The face” on Oxygen, the supermodel is opening up slowly and surely about her private life. The 42-yr-old model just joined Twitter last september, Instagram back in December and recently admit in an interview that she’s much happier after giving up alcohol. “I gave up drinking alcohol,” Naomi reveals to LifeandStyle magazine. “Not drinking makes me a lot happier.”

And after a turbulent past filled with catfights, tantrums and arrests, Naomi insists that her past doesn’t define her: “If people think they know me, they can think again. Most people think they know me because they say, ‘We’ve seen your pictures here and there for years,’” Naomi continues. “But when I’m not working or anything, I try to live a private, quiet life.” More >

Naomi Campbell featured in ELLE magazine [Photos]

naomi-campbell-elle-mag

Naomi Campbell is featured in the latest issue of ELLE magazine to promote her upcoming reality show The Face, which premieres Fed 12, on Oxygen.

Check out some highlights from the interview:

On doing reality TV:  “I’ve always been very shy of doing television. I’ve always said no. Not to be disrespectful to anyone—I didn’t want to say yes and then let people down.”

On the show’s mentorship angle that ultimately sold her on it: “Because it was done for me!” she says. “When I first got Yves Saint Laurent Couture, I didn’t know how to take off a cape. I would ask Katoucha and Dalma—the real divas of the runway—‘Can you show me?’ I’ve never been afraid to ask for help.” The aspirants on The Face need not fear, she says: “I care for my girls. Every single one of them. I’m not here to put anyone down.”

On the assault incident with her former assistant  in 2007: “I’m never gonna get away from it. It’s part of my history. I was remorseful and regretful. I’ve served. I did that time. And I never want to be in that position again.”

On if she watches Tyra Banks’s ANTM show: “I don’t watch the other reality model shows. I’ll never have anything to say. If you ask me about Tyra Banks”—for the record, I hadn’t—“I’m proud of her as a woman of color. She’s given girls opportunity, and God bless her.”)
