Janet Jackson and longtime beau Wissam Al Mana are married.
The couple confirmed the news and slammed rumors of “an extravagant wedding,” after it was reported that her billionaire businessman was planning to splash out millions on a lavish ceremony and even flying Janet’s large family to Qatar aboard private jets. The couple released a joint statement on her personal website, saying:
“The rumors regarding an extravagant wedding are simply not true. Last year we were married in a quiet, private, and beautiful ceremony. Our wedding gifts to one another were contributions to our respective favorite children’s charities. We would appreciate that our privacy is respected and that we are allowed this time for celebration and joy.
With love, Wissam and Janet”
Congratulations Janet and Wissam!!
Shortly after it was reported that pop icon Janet Jackson got engaged to her billionaire beau Wissam Al Mana, the 46-yr-old entertainer took to twitter and tweeted a seasonal greetings card to her fans. “Season’s Greetings! Love, Janet,” she wrote and shared the photo below.
Meanwhile, US Weekly reports that Janet and Wissam, 37, is set to marry in his native country, Qatari, sometime next year.
The Qatari billionaire ”gave her a huge, expensive ring” earlier this year. ”She’s afraid it will get lost, so she keeps it locked up!”
The affair “will cost millions,” reveals a second Jackson insider. “He is flying in all of Janet’s friends and family on private jets.” (Quick refresher: The L.A.-based singer has seven siblings and more than 20 nieces and nephews.)
Adds the source, “He wants to get a top chef to create a custom menu.”
The ceremony will undoubtedly be “a circus,” another source says.
The twice-wed Nutrisystem spokeswoman, 46 — who split from Jermaine Dupri in 2009 — is eager to make it official with her love of two years.
“She wants kids,” says the Jackson source. “If she can’t have them, she will adopt.”
Mel B and hubby Stephen Belafonte recreated the iconic 1993 Rolling Stone cover featuring Janet Jackson doing the same pose with strategically-placed hands covering the breast to help raise awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness month.
“I found a lump when I was 17 and freaked out.” The former Spice Girl tells October issue of British Cosmopolitan magazine. ”It turned out it was nothing but it terrified me. Ever since, I’ve always been one for checking, then double checking… I have three daughters and one stepdaughter so I’ll show them as they get older. My eldest, Phoenix, 13, does it already.”
Her director husband adds, “I’m a boob man so I had absolutely no problem doing this shoot or helping my wife check her breasts. What man wouldn’t like that? It’s a fun thing to do and so very important.”
Janet Jackson has signed on to executive produce a documentary called “Truth,” a film that will examine “the lives of trans- and nongendered people around the world and their epic struggle for equality.”
In a statement, the superstar said, “All people are very important to me. I’ve been fortunate to make friends and learn about very different lives. Truth is our small chance to ask that you try and understand someone who lives their life in a way that is a little bit different from yours, even though all of our hearts are the same. We want to stop the hate and find understanding.”
The documentary begins production this summer and will be directed by Robert Jason.
The 46-yr-old entertainer glowed in a white Pucci by Peter Dundas gown, shoes by Giuseppe Zanotti and jewelry by Pomellato.
Also at last night’s event: Chris Tucker, Nicole Murphy, Kim Kardashian, Liya Kebede, Kanye West and others.

Janet Jackson and her beau Wissam Al Mana are also in the South of France for the Cannes Film Festival.
The duo were photographed out and about getting some gelato. At one point, Wissam was seen sharing his sweet treat with the award winning entertainer, who covers the July 2012 issue of Prevention Magazine.

Here are some highlights from the interview.
On her public weight losses and gains: “I think people really connect with the idea of someone who’s gained and lost weight in this very public way, and also someone who’s an emotional eater. Chocolate, cake, caramel apples—there aren’t many things I don’t love.”
On how her friends keep her healthy: “Knowing I have these problems with body image, I ask my friends and family to tell me when I’ve lost too much too. Because I will continue to pick on myself, like all women do, and say, You need to [lose] more here, more there.”
On the health scares she’s managed to avoid: “Health was always a concern. When I gained weight in 2005, my nutritionist was very worried. I was close to having diabetes. Even when I lost it [and] then gained quite a bit back, there was always the thought of heart disease.” More >
