Angelina Jolie Opens Up About Preventive Double Mastectomy: “I do not feel any less of a woman”

In a surprising revelation, Angelina Jolie has revealed that she underwent a preventive double mastectomy to help reduce her chances of getting breast cancer and ovarian cancer.
In an op-ed piece for the NY Times, the Oscar winning actress says she “carry a “faulty” gene, BRCA1, which sharply increases my risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer.”
Although the risk of developing cancer from the gene varies, Angelina said she had an 87 percent risk of breast cancer and a 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer. So her decision to have the preventive mastectomy procedure was for the sake of her six children and her loving and supportive partner, Brad Pitt.
The 37-yr-old actress said began her treatment in early February with the final surgery in April to “completed with the reconstruction of the breasts with an implant.”
And now that the procedure is over, Angelina’s chances of developing breast cancer have dropped from 87 percent to under 5 percent.

Brad Pitt and his longtime love Angelina Jolie are engaged after seven years together.
“Yes, it’s confirmed,” Cynthia Pett-Dante, Brad’s manager said in a statement. “It is a promise for the future, and their kids are very happy. There’s no date set at this time.”
The speculation began after Angelina was spotted wearing a HUGE diamond ring at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s Chinese Galleries on Wednesday, with Brad and their son Pax.
Earlier today, jeweler Robert Procop told THR that he and Brad designed an engagement ring for Angelina.
Congrats to the couple who shares six kids, Maddox, 10, Pax, 8, Zahara, 7, Shiloh, 5, and Knox and Vivienne, 3.

Angelina Jolie has finally spoken about her fun Oscar-night appearance and her much talked about right leg pose on the red carpet and on stage during the award show.
See, the 36-yr-old mother of 6 kept sticking her leg out of the high slit in her black velvet Atelier Versace gown, causing her right leg to go viral, starting its own Twitter account and causing countless legbombed photos to pop up on Pinterest.
Speaking with the HuffPost, Angelina said, “I honestly didn’t pay attention to it. You know what I mean? I don’t watch those TV shows and if I go online and see something about myself, I don’t click on it. And the people I surround myself with don’t really talk about that kind of stuff. [Laughs]. I heard something, but I didn’t pay any attention. It’s as simple as being a woman picking a dress you like and having a night, and not really thinking about anything else.”

Angelina Jolie worked the red carpet at Sunday’s 84th Annual Academy Awards in L.A.
Putting her best foot forward, the “Salt” actress wore a custom black velvet Atelier Versace gown with a thigh-high slit.
Her beau Brad Pitt, who was nominated for the Oscar for Best Actor for his role in Moneyball, suited up in Tom Ford tux.
Angelina finished her look with Salvatore Ferragamo peep toe pumps, Neil Lane jewelry, and a Jaime Mascaro clutch.
I have never seen Angelina worked a dress so hard while posing on a red-carpet before – I love her like french-fries BUT it just seemed out of character… nonetheless, the sexy vixen looked smoking hot!!!!

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie looked every bit the part of hollywood royality at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel last evening Jan 15 in Beverly Hills, California.
The 36-yr-old “Salt” actress, wore a gorgeous ivory satin one-shoulder Atelier Versace gown, bright red lipstick and a simple updo hairstyle – while her hunky beau wore a Ferragamo three-piece tuxedo.
Angelina’s film In The Land of Blood and Honey was nominated in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
Brad lost Best Actor Drama Category to pal George Clooney.
Although they both left empty handed – they got each other – and at the end of the night Angelina is looking forward to one thing and one thing only “Getting into bed with Brad!” - hello!

Just hours after expressing she’s “disappointed” in “a few things” President Obama has done since his election in office, Angelina Jolie paid a visit to the White House.
Paparazzi and cameras crews snapped the Oscar Winning Actress along with her beau Brad Pitt in the Oval Office today Jan 11.
The couple was in town to attend a viewing of Jolie’s new film, “In the Land of Blood and Honey.”
During last evening’s premiere, Angelina was asked if she thinks President Obama is taking the country in the right direction. She told TheDC, “There are many many things I think have gone in a wonderful direction, and there are a few things I am disappointed in. And I don’t feel like tonight is the night to clarify but there are many wonderful things that have moved forward and of course some other things that are very frustrating.”
