The man whose “beating by Los Angeles police in 1991 was caught on camera and sparked riots after the acquittal of the four officers involved, was found dead in his swimming pool earlier today, authorities and his fiance Cynthia Kelley said,” CNN Reports.
The cause of death is unknown at this time.
Rodney’s beating during a 1991 DUI traffic stop, led to the worst riot in U.S history in 1992. Fifty-three people died and more than 2,000 were injured. Some 7,000 fires were set and caused $1 billion in damage.
Rodney sued the city of L.A and won $3.8million in damages. He later got engaged to one of the juror in the compensation case Ms Kelley. Few months ago, Rodney released a memoir, “The Riot Within: My Journey from Rebellion to Redemption.”
