Idris Elba has signed on to play Nelson Mandela in a new biopic.

The film , which will begin shooting this year, will be based on the book Long Walk to Freedom.

This film is just one of two projects slated to focus on the former South African leader. 

Madiba, which is the other project, is a 6-part miniseries produced by Mandela’s grandson, Kweku Mandela.

Madiba will also begin filming later this year.
