R.I.P: Etta James Dies at 73
Legenday Blues singer Etta James, has died from complications of leukemia earlier today. She was 73.
Etta, best known for her hit song “At Last,” died at Riverside Community Hospital with her husband and two sons by her side.
Friend and manager Lupe De Leon confirmed the news in a statement, “This is a tremendous loss for the family, her friends and fans around the world. She was a true original who could sing it all — her music defied category.”
“I worked with Etta for over 30 years. She was my friend and I will miss her always,” he added.
Etta had been diagnosed with chronic leukemia in January 2011 and also suffered from dementia and kidney failure. She had been under the 24-hour care of Dr. Elaine James, who is unrelated.
