President Barack Obama honored six people who lost their lives and the 14 wounded in the assassination attempt on congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, over the weekend when a gunman opened fire.

The tribute service‘Together We Thrive: Tucson and America’, was held at the McKale Memorial Center in Tucson, Arizona, on Wednesday (January 12).

The president spoke for about 30 minutes and talked about those who lost their lives, and thanked those who helped Giffords’ and the others during and after the shooting. He also gave an update on Congressman Gabrielle Giffords, who was shot in the head and fighting for her life.

“And I want to tell you, her husband mark is here and he’s allowed me to share this with you. Right after we went to visit..a few minutes after we left her room and some of her colleagues from Congress, were in the room. Gabby opened her eyes for the 1st time..Gabby opened her eyes for the first time,” said President Obama.
